Road resurfacing gets under way in Strand, Nomzamo and Gordon’s Bay

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has begun a series of road resurfacing projects across Strand, Nomzamo and Gordon’s Bay. Work commenced today, Friday, 13 March 2026, and is expected to continue until Thursday, 14 May 2026. Construction will take place between 07:00 and 17:00 on weekdays, weather permitting and subject to the absence of unforeseen delays.

‘Residents and business owners in Strand, Nomzamo and Gordon’s Bay can expect improved road safety conditions and riding quality, as well as decreased vehicle user costs once this project is complete. Our teams will do their best to complete the road resurfacing as efficiently as possible. The work entails resurfacing the affected roads with new asphalt, repairing isolated kerbs and channels, as well as the reinstatement of all road markings removed during the process. Maintaining these roads is one of the ways in which we keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The following road segments will be worked on:

Strand: Aerodrome Road, Altena Road, Boschendal Road, Bosman Street, Mikro Avenue, Da Gama Street, Daniel Street, De Beers Road, Cooke Street, Thompson Street, Donkin Street, Enslin Street, Mynhardt Street, Niehaus Street and Steyn Street.

Nomzamo: Magatya Street, Milton Street, Phaliso Road, Lumka Street, Tyilana Street, Nkume Street, Skoji Street, Saphepha Street and Simon Street.

Gordon’s Bay: Chilwan Crescent, Clarkson Street, Marcus Crescent, The Mews and James Close.

Congestion can be expected since traffic travelling in both directions will be affected. Road users are advised to factor in longer travel time and to consider alternative routes while roadworks are under way.

The City requests road users to be cautious while work is under way, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces and be mindful of the construction workers.
